Blog or a Website

Creating your own blog is not only fun, but the concept of a blog is growing in popularity in terms of running your own home based business.

So the question arises should you create a blog or a website for your business? Traditionally websites have been the cornerstone of all online businesses. Whereas, a blog has been looked upon as a means of keeping your friends and family in touch with what is happening in your life.

All that is changing however, so you need to decide the pros and cons of both avenues of promoting your home based business. The people who have been marketing online for years will tell you that you should have both, as I do. Some will even say that a blog is not as professional as a website.

My thought is that a blog can do as much, if not sometimes more for your business. It is hard to tell a blog from a website from just looking at one. A blog is an excellent way to reach a number of people who otherwise would not have looked at your website. There is a whole new community of bloggers who read and access each others blogs.

Whereas, with a website you advertise and wait for someone to click on your site and then hopefully they will make a purchase or even come back to your site at a later date. A business using only a website will take longer to get indexed and recognized in the online business world.

A blog has an automatic RSS feed built into it. What that does for you is that everytime you write a new post on your blog it should get broadcast to other sites that will show your post to a wide range of individuals. This costs you nothing.

You can also have a RSS feed on your website, but I have found it not to be as effective as it is on a blog.

The one aspect of a blog that I find burdensome is that in order for my blog to find its way to the top of the pile in the blogging world, I have to post regularly. Meaning I have to post at least every day, if not every other day. It does require attention.

by: Nancy k

Whereas, with my website I go in once a week and check my links, my offers and update the site, advertise, and forget about it for a couple of days.

Blogging is a lot of fun and I enjoy it as I have three blogs, but it does take time. There is a great program available that shows you how to create a blog and make money from it. I know you have seen it, and probably passed it by, but it is an excellent program if you are thinking of starting an online business and are not sure if a website is for you. The link will be at the end of this post.

Another thing to consider is if you want a hosting account for your blog or do you want a free service. A free service does offer much of the same, except it does limit the “pluggins” that your site can have. With a paid service like Wordpress.org and your own hosting account you can do a lot more. A good resource book is “Wordpress for Dummies”, I used it and it helped a lot.

How The Blogs Are Profitable?

by: Ravi kumar
Blogs are becoming increasingly popular due to the fact that they can be put to use for income production. Online Marketers use blogs for marketing and bloggers exploit on that need and make money blogging. So why are blogs so beneficial? Well here are four reasons:

Highly Targeted Marketing

Blog visitors are there for a particular reason. Blogs, being constantly updated are a great source of information on a particular topic. Visitors become repeat visitors, readers and subscribers. Good blogs, the ones that are maintained and updated regularly can and do have steady readership that keeps coming back awaiting the next post and article. These blogs have audiences allowing marketers and advertisers easy access to particular groups.

The bloggers that reviewed the products, even if they where paid to do it, gave me a completely different perception; a perspective that really helped that company make a sale without using any of its own resources to do so! Blogs are Interactive.

Readers will post comments, take part in discussions, talk about their experiences about particular products/topics, draw their conclusions and maybe write about the same topic on their blogs. Aside from the extra exposure an advertiser can get it helps build a better presence for their website with more backlinks. More backlinks, means better rankings and as a result better placement on a search engine result page and more money.

Building Backlinks

All internet marketers are aware of the importance of building backlinks. Ideally, one way links pointing back to their sites. When someone posts a link with a keyword pointing back to their page, it is like a vote; a vote of confidence for that particular site, at least for search engines. In order for, Google, lets say to weed out all the immaterial results from searches, they came up with an algorithm that only shows the most popular pages for that keyword. In order to achieve this they rank pages with more links pointing back to them with particular keywords, better and higher. If you want your page to rank better for searches you should endeavor to get all the backlinks you can find. Other blogs are an outstanding way of getting these links.

It is not hard to start a blog and turn it into a money blog. All you need to do is first understand the potential of your blog and then start putting some work in optimizing it. Once you start getting some visitors you can start making money right away. You can make money blogging with paid reviews. Or if you are into Web 2.0, and a fan of social networking, you can still make money blogging with Entrecard.

Blog Design

by: Tony Tan
Blogs have increased popularity over this past months. Many people have started to create their personal blogs to express their thoughts and feelings. Internet companies have also started their blogs to inform consumers on the latest product news and reviews.

Because of this, blogs are also being used as internet marketing media. Before, internet marketing is done by placing banners and links on popular websites, such as news and information sites. Links were also included on newsletters and marketing letters sent to the members of their mailing lists.

Many people spend time reading blogs. People read their friend's blogs, their favorite author's blogs, blogs on topics that they are interested in, and blogs on product reviews. With the increasing popularity of blogging, it is even feared that people rely on blogs to get the latest news.

While getting news reports from blogs isn't reliable, some people look for product reviews through blogs. In some cases, this is more dependable. While it is true that some media persons are being paid to write good reviews about a certain product, blog writers write about their actual experiences on products and services from a company.

Since there are many people who read and start their own blogs, blogs are a good medium to market a product. With the increasing blog traffic means increase in product sales.

Blog traffic can be increased by joining affiliate programs and sites, which will list your blog under a certain search category or name. You can also have your blog advertised in popular websites. This, however, will cost some money and is not advisable if you have just started blogging.

A writer who has just launched his/her blog will want as much traffic as possible to increase advertisements on the site. Also, some advertisers pay every time their link is clicked or the page that has their link is viewed.

When you have increased traffic on your blog, you should try to keep you visitors coming back and recommending your blog to friends and colleagues.

This can be done by having informative or amusing content and good blog layout and design. You may develop your blog's content or you can also acquire the services of a web content writer to provide you with the blog articles.

The blog's layout and design also plays a big role. While most of the companies offering free blog hosting offer pre-selected templates, there are also some that allows customization that if you utilize this feature correctly can increase your blog's traffic.

Here are a few tips to make your blog stand out from the millions of blogs out there that have standard designs.

* Customize the banner

The banner usually has the most generic designs that are common to the blogs from a blogging company or service.

You can personalize this banner by having a graphic with the dimensions of the banner. You can also edit the graphic so that it will also include the title of your blog.

In this case, you can create your own graphic or you can purchase professional looking graphics online for less than $10.

* Personalizing photos

Of course, most of the photos that you will be posting will be your own. However, if you don't customize the photos before posting them, you may miss maximizing the enhancing benefits graphics can add to the page. Adding photo borders can help the photo stand out from the page.

It can also add to the design of your blog. You can choose a standard border or you can also create your own border which can be associated with your blog's templates.

* Add a favicon

Don't you think sites with icons on the address bar before the website's URL are cool? Many people do. These favicons add a professional look to the URL. These easy to do using photo or graphic editing softwares.

* Check out blog templates, layouts, backgrounds, textures and skins from sites

There are sites that offer free blog templates, layouts, backgrounds, textures and skins. You can make use of these so your blog will not look generic like most of the blogs hosted by the service provider.

* Include RSS feeds

This is a cool way to inform people with newsreaders about your blog headlines. Tutorials on RSS feeds are available on the internet.

* Audio makes your blog more personal

Not only does audio personalizes the blog; it can also keep your visitors coming back. You can try having streaming radio stations, mp3 file or playlists loading with your blog.

* Advertisements

If you have signed-up with Google Ad-Sense, which I am sure you would like to do, make sure that the ads are conveniently placed that these will not hinder your readers' ease in accessing the information on your blog.

Try using these tips and you can definitely increase and retain traffic on your blog.

How to increase blog traffic And Analyzing your blog ?

by: Gaurav Singhi
Analyzing your blog traffic statistics can be a very useful tool for a number of different reasons. But before you can make full use of this tool, you need to understand how to interpret the data.

Most blog hosting companies will provide you with basic blog traffic information that you then have to interpret and make pertinent use of. However, the data you receive from your host company can be overwhelming if you don't understand how to apply it to your particular business and blog site. Let's start by examining the most basic data the average visitors to your site on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.

These figures are the most accurate measure of your blog site's activity. It would appear on the surface that the more traffic you see recorded, the better you can assume your blog site is doing, but this is an inaccurate perception. You must also look at the behavior of your visitors once they come to your blog site to accurately gauge the effectiveness of your site.

There is often a great misconception about what is commonly known as "hits" and what is really effective, quality traffic to your site. Hits simply mean the number of information requests received by the server.

The more visitors that come to your blog site, the more accurate your interpretation will become. The greater the traffic is to your blog site, the more precise your analysis will be of overall trends in visitor behavior. The smaller the number of visitors, the more a few anomalous visitors can distort the analysis.

It could be that your keywords are directing the wrong type of visitors to your blog site, or that your graphics are confusing or intimidating, causing the visitor to exit rapidly. Use the knowledge of how much time visitors are spending on your site to pinpoint specific problems, and after you fix those problems, continue to use time spent as a gauge of how effective your fix has been.

Additionally, blog traffic stats can help you determine effective and ineffective areas of your blog site. If you have a page that you believe is important, but visitors are exiting it rapidly, that page needs attention. You could, for example, consider improving the link to this page by making the link more noticeable and enticing, or you could improve the look of the page or the ease that your visitors can access the necessary information on that page.

As you can see, these statistics will reveal vital information about the effectiveness of individual pages, and visitor habits and motivation. This is essential information to any successful Internet marketing campaign.

Your blog site undoubtedly has exit pages, such as a final order or contact form. This is a page you can expect your visitor to exit rapidly. However, not every visitor to your site is going to find exactly what he or she is looking for, so statistics may show you a number of different exit pages. This is normal unless you notice a exit trend on a particular page that is not intended as an exit page. In the case that a significant percentage of visitors are exiting your blog site on a page not designed for that purpose, you must closely examine that particular page to discern what the problem is.

After you have analyzed your visitor statistics, it's time to turn to your keywords and phrases. Notice if particular keywords are directing a specific type of visitor to your site. The more targeted the visitor - meaning that they find what they are looking for on your site, and even better, fill out your contact form or make a purchase the more valuable that keyword is. For more information :- www.your-own-blog.com www.blogging.infozabout.com

Finally, if you notice that users are finding your blog site by typing in your company name, break open the champagne! It means you have achieved a significant level of brand recognition, and this is a sure sign of burgeoning success.

Some Easy Ways to Create A Successful Blog

by:yogirishi
If Web 2.0 is the heart of new and successful Internet, the power of Blogging is the very spine of this wonderful concept called Web 2.0.The concept of Web 2.0 has created a revolution over the Internet.Blog is a personal website, which is stored on a common server. So you can create a blog about yourself, your job, basically your own diary.

It has single handedly created the new Internet, which caters to the businessman looking out for business as well as the individual who wishes to have clear, concise and factual information. The interesting part is that you can create a blog about almost everything and anything in this world around you.

Blogging is a boon to the new Internet Marketer. They can actually market and introduce their product to the general public almost for free. Here are 5 tips to creating a successful Blog.

Give the Content, First: Say whatever you wish to say to your reader before you even get into the ad-mad world of the Internet. Make sure that the content is significant and witty and yet simple and concise. In this era of concentration deficit, everyone prefers to read simple and concise content rather than reading a tome of knowledge that you have to offer. Be it about yourself or about any product that you are marketing.

Describe Your Blog: It is very necessary for you to describe your blog first to yourself and then the reader. Remember that a professional blog and a private blog are much different and never the twain shall meet.

Wit: All said and done, the Blog is your personal space, and you can be a bit creative and informal while you writing on your blog. In fact, the individuality of the blog makes it unique.

Lay out the Layout: Every Blog website comes with its own default themes which you can choose. You do not have to be a usability guru to know which theme and layout would be the best for your users. A necessary tip while we are on fonts: Make it a point to use only those fonts that are normally available on the personal computer. If you do wish to use another font, at least make it a point to keep the common fonts, like Arial, verdana and times new roman as options while making out the blog page. Ensure that the layout is not too cluttered and is easy to navigate and move around in.

Also, make it a point to stress for original and factual content as far as possible. If possible, make it a point to look after the formatting of the content and the website in such a way that the reader comes to your blog to rest and read, rather than read and run. More time spent on your blog just means that you have more time to convince the random web visitor into a prospective client.

Blog Software For All Your Blogging Needs

by: Lohman
Today anyone who has writing ability or is dreaming to be a writer has written a blog in the net. There are blog soft wares that are simple and easy to use and a technically inclined and challenged individuals can easily acquire a blog online.

For some individuals, blogs are their projects of every day living, as they talk about their daily episodes as well as make tribute to friends and family. Furthermore, blogs assume a profound meaning written to compose and assemble political statements, endorse a product, supply information on research, and even offer tutorials. Any subject that are of your interests, you can be sure that someone has written a blog about it.

Blogs are now being written by musicians, politicians, sports figures, novelists, newscasters as well as other known figures. It is this blog fever that has raised controversy. The fact that anyone can compose and regarding any subject matter under the sun, complaints about certain write-ups are an issue. In a lot of blogs, names are being mentioned; do bear in mind that although you are entitled to write anything that interests you in a blog, you have to be very careful and take in a lot of responsibility. Do not make any statements which can become controversial; or else, be very prepared.

Why a Blog?

1. For personal acquaintances, relationships and hobby. A person can write a blog about his daily activities, what’s going on with his life as his way of telling his family and friends the things that goes on in his life. Likewise, one may also write a blog just so he can express what he feels about himself, or about a certain subject matter that is of interest to him.

2. Topical. Some blogs are committed to a precise topic, like computer hardware or politics. These are frequently read like magazines.

3. For marketing. Corporations are too, into blogging; when well written and implemented, this kind of blog can be a powerful instrument for business communications, forming eagerness and anticipation regarding their products and services offered, or used as tool within the company, keeping employees well informed about company issues and news.

Why someone else's software?

A lot of Web designer and creators will laugh at the belief and idea of utilizing the software of someone else. This is can be correct especially when each software greatly differs from the particular requirements that a client may have. Yet on the other hand, when it refers to a Weblog software, there is no reason for apprehension in the use of a package that is pre-written, as most packages were developed through years of study; not just knocked together over a couple of days.

In addition, one may study its feature set. For a developer, it would take a lot of time and effort to write and compose from “nothing at all” every single feature in the Weblog software packages of today. For most people, a blog is there for the main reason that chooses to publish or make known your literature and texts on the Web, so you want to spend your time more on writing than coding.

Hosted Services

If one wishes to start broadcasting on the Web, yet does not have web hosting, one can consider looking into a hosted service, which includes Blogger, TypePad, Live Journal, and more.

These services are operated or handled for an individual, so there is no need to concern one about technical upkeep of one’s Weblog; instead, one can concentrate on his blog's appearance and content. In just minutes, after signing for an account, one can readily start his own blog. Many such services are offered free, such as blogger. TypePad charges a minimal amount for monthly service fee.

Self-Hosted

When one has Web hosting on hand, or is eager to buy hosting, in which one feesl that the advantage will prevail over the problems of keeping up your own blog connection and installation, then you may want to take into account a package that is self-hosted, which includes Movable Type, Textpattern and WordPress.

Other hosting companies did construct the process of installation easier, permitting installation with just a click from a control panel that is browser-based. It is important that you check with a hosting company so you can view if this function is offered. Similar to hosted services, some self hosted packages are made available either for free or for a certain fee which is dependent on the type of package that you choose as well as the basis why you are using it. merchants account philosophy

I ran across terminologies like merchant account service and merchant accounts on the web. I could not help but mused on it in terms of philosophy. One of my favorite philosophers is Paul Ricouer. His article entitled, "Socius and the Neighbor" is one of my favorite read. Based on the Parable of the Good Samaritan and the question, "Who is my neighbor?" Ricouer came up with the Socius which he described as the human relationship that one have with an organized group or the person that one can encounter through social function. On the other hand, the neighbor is the personal way that one encounters another as a person, the interpersonal connectivity with varying degrees of intimacy. Business transactions on the web are done through a merchant account. This allows a merchant or a business owner to accept credit card payments from customers and have the funds deposited into a banking account. Companies provide merchant account services for these business owners and consumers. They assist in processing credit cards and online application of these accounts to put the exchange of goods and services through. These companies have relationships with processing banks. These processing banks do the work that gets the merchants paid for their sales. The whole thing is a depiction of the Socius. It is a relationship on its own which impresses the corporate spirit reigning in the virtual world. For come to think of it, this relationship differs from the conventional way of handing someone face-to-face with money as payment for goods and services provided. It varies compared to the ancient praxis of barter, where the exchange of goods are meant to establish cultural connections. The systemic process of merchant accounts and services deals with people as organizations through impersonal manner. It involves exchange in a maze between people occupying spaces miles apart. They can be faceless but never credit-card-less. This way it oftentimes poses threats of fraud and entails high risk. It would be good to refer to a merchant account specialist who can deal with it the "neighborly," the personal way. It is amazing that the Socius which deals on the web brings with it the presence of the neighbor in its dealings with merchant accounts. For on a deeper level, there is global interconnectivity which is working and exchanging online. They may be dealing impersonally and corporately but they cling on to one personal value and that is trust. Merchant accounts and services as a system embody the socius and the neighbor where a person deals with the world through one's social function or through one's call.

Virtual Currency

Have you heard of merchant accounts? Web merchant accounts? Credit merchant accounts? Paypal? The impression of these terms to me is a different currency used in a different planet. One day, I went through the net to look for a job and found lots at one click. Lured by the Piper's music, I trailed after every instruction to get me to send my application for the job I was applying for. The journey ended with the item which says something about Paypal location. With nary a knowledge about it, I abandoned the whole process as fast as I can. In another occasion, I saw this gorgeous dress being auctioned on a certain site on the net. It was the last day of bidding and the price was very reasonable. I wanted to close the bid and bring home the dress. Then, an automated question asked me for my credit card account number which I did not have. I lost the bid for I never got to that round. I lost the dress as well for not putting the bid. Still in a different situation, I was told I could sell my property faster if I place an ad on the net. And so I did. I took pictures of the property I was trying to sell. I wrote a good description about it. Then, I was asked to pay a certain amount which I think was reasonable enough for the placement of such an ad. However, I ran out of it when the mode of payment was asked. For the simple reason, I did not know. In the real world, if I may use the term to distinguish from the web for it seemed to be a world of its own, business transactions are dealt with through a mode of payment through money. In the virtual world, there seemed to have a currency of its own. I have encountered Paypal. There are the so-called merchant accounts, web merchant accounts, credit merchant accounts. I have read articles by a merchant accounts' specialist, Brian Armstrong and as I have gathered so far there are many possible payment options for customers on the web. One can opt for a Paypal account. But those who are not willing to sign up for one, may choose other web merchant accounts. These modes of payments can be used in buying and selling online. These can also channel payments for the services and goods provided for both buyers and customers, employers and service-providers. Fraudulent transactions can also happen through these web merchant accounts. But there are fraud controls which one can opt for. Options are open for the convenience of the customers. They can either use credit cards and merchant accounts can process them. They can even refer to a merchant accounts' specialist. Or they can opt for good old Paypal. In whatever way, business transactions have to be done with the lowest outlay as possible.
